Catherine and Matt West make wheel-thrown stoneware tableware and homeware under the name Pottery West, firing in both reduction and oxidation. Their backgrounds are in design and architecture, and it shows in subtle, carefully detailed forms, often faceted or finished with calculated crystalline and layered glazes. They mix the glazes themselves from oxides and raw materials.
They describe their aim as pots that are "a quiet but confident celebration of detail, function and the poetics of making". Their book, Designing and Making Tableware at The Wheel, came out in 2024.
