Best of Sheffield is a side project by Jack Kirby, a Sheffield local who'd rather buy one good thing than five cheap ones. The city has been making things to last for centuries, and plenty of people still do, often in workshops you'd walk straight past. This site is where to find them. It also covers the cafés, restaurants, bars and pubs worth knowing, neighbourhood by neighbourhood.

How we choose

Every maker we feature makes their work in Sheffield or the nearby Peak District, from Kelham Island to Hathersage. Every place is one we've checked is open, with facts taken from its own site or a trusted listing. Bigger brands only make the cut when the specific item is made locally. Everything is built to last and can be repaired. We check each maker against their own site before listing them. Anything sponsored will always be clearly labelled.
