Stainless and silver cutlery made at the Round Building factory, with tours and a shop

Where
Round Building, Hathersage S32

David Mellor was an internationally famous cutlery designer, often called "the cutlery king". His company's cutlery is still made at the Round Building in Hathersage, a circular factory designed by Sir Michael Hopkins, which has been called a minor masterpiece of modern architecture. Mellor worked with Hopkins on the design and supervised its construction. Processes move anti-clockwise round the factory floor.

You can see it for yourself. Guided factory tours run 30–45 minutes. Across the road, the shop carries the full David Mellor Collection, and there's also a design museum and the Riverside Kitchen café.
